Islanders warned about health insurance

Island residents and visitors are being reminded to check their insurance when they're travelling off-island.

Whilst the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the Isle of Man and UK Government allows for free emergency healthcare, it doesn't cover repatriation.

This means if an Island resident receives emergency treatment in the UK whilst on holiday, without appropriate insurance, the cost of being returned to the Island would come out of their own pocket.

Health Minister David Anderson says some people still don't realise that repatriation costs aren't covered in the reciprocal agreement and never have been.
