Land to be returned to nature after cottages demolished

Properties disused due to noise from IRIS pumping station

Work to return land occupied by disused properties to nature has begun.

Manx Utilities has started to demolish White Hoe Cottage and Ivy Cottage on the Old Castletown Road, and are discussing plans for the site with the Manx Wildlife Trust.

The cottages were purchased by the Isle of Man Government in 2008, due to issues with vibration and noise created by the White Hoe IRIS pumping station.

Asbestos removal began on Monday, and once the area is cleared the site will be landscaped and returned to nature, taking into account the local environment.

Traffic management may be in place in the area at times during the demolition, when heavy machinery is in use.
