No trace found
Douglas lifeboat was called out yesterday (7 Nov) after St Bees lifeboat on exercise reported receiving a distress signal.
The call out came just before 7pm and the Douglas boat was asked to use their lifeboat's Direction finding (DF) equipment to try and trace the source of the signal.
The RNLI all-weather lifeboat Sir William Hillary was lowered down its slipway out off the boathouse so the mast with the DF aerials could be raised.
No trace of a signal could be found so the lifeboat was then requested to launch and proceed to a point some 10 miles off Douglas while scanning for the signal.
However, after reaching the 10 mile point with no signal detected, the lifeboat was stood down.
