Long Covid sufferers call for guidance on managing symptoms

Unknown how many Manx residents are experiencing continued symptoms

Long Covid sufferers on the Isle of Man are calling for guidance on how to manage the illness.

Estimates suggest there could be around 60,000 people in the UK suffering persistent symptoms, long after they were first infected.

These include breathlessness, fatigue, long problems and loss of taste and smell.

It's not known how many of the more than 300 people on Island who've had the virus have been affected by long covid.

Sandy Denning has it, and says guidance would be helpful:

There is no definitive answer to why long covid happens - some scientists say the virus may continue to linger in parts of the body, or that it triggers an overactive immune response.

The Health Minister David Ashford says his department must support those suffering long Covid:

Manx Radio has asked the DHSC to explain what advice it's giving to those who have long covid symtpoms.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, is working to develop guidelines, identify on-going symptoms, and best practice for treatment and support.
