Man accused of airline fraud to stand trial in November

28-year-old denies three offences

A Ballasalla man will stand trial later this year after denying being involved in a £13 million airline fraud.

Jason Gerard Scales, of Douglas Road, appeared at the Court of General Gaol Delivery at Douglas Courthouse today (14 April) where he entered not guilty pleas to three offences.

The 28-year-old denies committing fraud by false representation between 7 May and 5 June 2021.

It’s alleged he falsely claimed the Isle of Man Government would underwrite a loan to enable Ettyl Limited to buy Stobart Air.

He’s also been accused of supplying articles for use in frauds in May 2021 – the court heard these were documents allegedly signed by senior government officials.

A 15-day jury trial has been scheduled to start on 13 November which will be presided over by a panel deemster; Mr Scales has been bailed until that date.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 3 November new trial dates were set for Mr Scales' trial. It is now due to start on 29 April 2024.
