Man accused of holding woman at knifepoint demanding drugs

37-year-old hasn't yet entered any pleas

A Douglas man’s appeared in court over allegations he held a knife to a woman’s throat as he tried to buy cannabis.

Thirty-seven-year-old Gavin William Patterson of Christian Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse via a live video link from the Isle of Man Prison.

He faces charges of possessing an offensive weapon, using provoking behaviour and two counts of affray, but hasn't yet entered any pleas.

Prosecution advocate James Robinson told the court Patterson wanted to buy drugs on 10 December and visited a block of flats on Marathon Road in Douglas where he rang every doorbell to find a dealer.

When a woman answered her door, the court heard Patterson barged his way into her flat and demanded she hand over drugs, using the knife to threaten her.

He left empty-handed but returned on 14 December and is said to have swung a golf club around over his head.

His advocate told the hearing Patterson smoked cannabis socially, and his client claimed to be the victim after the woman threatened him over a £2,000 debt.

A bail application was denied and magistrates remanded him in custody to next appear on 14 January.
