Man carried knife disguised as credit card

Previous convictions for carrying blades

A man’s been jailed for resisting police officers and carrying a lock knife disguised as a credit card.

Jonathan James Elliott of Tynwald Road in Douglas admitted both offences when he appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

James Robinson, prosecuting, said the 26 year old had the hidden blade on January 27 – and had previous convictions for carrying blades.

When he was arrested, Elliott told police he’d confused the knife with a gym membership card, however his advocate told the court he knew he was carrying a knife.

The charge of resisting police officers related to a different incident which happened on December 23.

Mrs Hughes sent him to prison for eight weeks for resisting officers, and imposed a consecutive 10-week sentence for carrying a prohibited article.

Elliott was also banned from entering licensed premises or buying alcohol for a year.
