Man had 900,000 indecent images of children

Evidence analysed by Northwest Regional Organised Crime Unit

900,000 indecent images of children were found by investigators searching three IT hard-drives owned by a Douglas man.

Martin Andrew Cleator has admitted to possessing the largest amount of images of that nature ever inspected by a UK police task force.

He appeared at Douglas Courthouse for the outline of evidence analysis by the Northwest Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Police and the prosecution are now looking into whether or not the 44-year old was also involved in distributing the material.

The prosecution says that is due - in part - to receiving the report on 9 January; giving it little time to process the data and interview Mr Cleator.

Deemster Alistair Montgomerie joined his defence advocate in voicing concerns about how long the investigation is taking - saying; "if it goes on for much longer, I may have to intervene."

There was no application for bail, the deemster further remanded Cleator into custody - he'll next appear in court on 24 February.
