Man punches girlfriend after row over milk

Twelve-week prison sentence after admitting common assault charge

A man’s been jailed after a row over milk led to him punching his girlfriend.

Twenty-five-year-old Jake Flood, of Mona Drive in Douglas, has appeared before magistrates for sentencing, after admitting a charge of common assault.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the hearing at Douglas courthouse Flood and his girlfriend lived together with housemates, and his partner had complained they’d been taking her food,

On 12 March, she saw someone had used her milk and asked Flood to intervene.

After she talked to him, Flood turned violent and started to shout abuse at her.

When she vowed to leave, he punched her a number of times in the head, causing injuries which required hospital treatment.

At the time of the attack, Flood was serving a suspended sentence, but magistrates said it would be unjust to activate it as they were already imposing a sentence of immediate custody.

He was sent to prison for 12 weeks and warned he’d face a more severe sentence if he got into trouble again in future.
