'Concerns raised about the welfare or safety of patients are taken extremely seriously'
Manx Care has confirmed an investigation and safeguarding process has been held following claims an elderly female stroke patient was assaulted by a member of staff at Noble's Hospital.
Details of the alleged incident were shared anonymously on social media, purportedly from the family of the patient.
They say their loved one suffered bruising to her head and legs about a week into her hospital stay.
"A safeguarding meeting was held two weeks later, which family attended. We were told enquiries would be made to identify the member of staff involved.
"Four weeks later, following a further meeting, there had still been no progress.
"Another four weeks later, around 10 weeks post incident, we attended a further meeting where we were informed that HR had decided it was not proportionate to ask the small number of potentially identified staff members to provide photographs to see whether our family member could identify the person she states assaulted her, we as family did not request to be present during this process and simply asked for it to be done in a private / sensitive manner with just our family member present, our main purpose is for the hospital to identify the staff member involved, we did not need to / nor did we wish to know the identity so long as the matter was sorted."
In response to the claims, Manx Care says it recognises that reading posts of this nature can be upsetting and concerning for patients, families and the wider public. Everyone receiving care through Manx Care should feel safe, respected and treated with dignity.
In this case, the health body has confirmed to Manx Radio that a thorough investigation and safeguarding process has been undertaken involving the appropriate agencies.
It says: 'Any concerns raised about the welfare or safety of patients are taken extremely seriously and investigated fully.'
'Due to our duty of confidentiality, we are unable to comment on individual patients, members of staff or employment matters. However, we would like to reassure the public that safeguarding vulnerable people is a key priority, and appropriate action is taken whenever concerns are identified.'
