Manx Care seeks new chair for 'highly visible and important' role

10-12 workdays per month expected

Manx Care has started its search for a new non-executive chair.

The vacancy has been sparked by Wendy Reid’s decision to quit the role.

The successful candidate who replaces her will be tasked with leading the board responsible for delivering health and care services on the Island.

The health body has described the three-year limited term appointment as ‘crucial’ in helping develop strategy and culture.

Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian said: “Working closely with the chief executive, and non-executive members, the successful candidate will foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and collaboration, while ensuring that the organisation remains focused on the needs of patients, service users, carers and the wider community.

“This is a highly visible and important public appointment.

“The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgement and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government, healthcare professionals, partner organisations, staff and the public.

“They will be expected to provide constructive challenge, champion good governance, promote transparency and accountability and support the organisation through a period of continued transformation and improvement.”

The salary for the position - which requires between 10 and 12 workdays per month - is described as 'competitive’; applications close on 23 August.

Candidates do not need to be Island based to be considered for the position but preference will be given to those that are or who can ‘demonstrate a clear and credible commitment to spending substantial time on the Island’.

A relocation package is not available.

Professor Reid's decision in May followed that of outgoing Chief Executive Teresa Cope. 

She has now taken up a position in Guernsey. 

Dr Chris Stockport is currently leading the health body on an interim basis.
