Manx seafood industry 'could survive' EU tariffs

European demand for IoM produce expected to last

The Manx seafood industry could survive if the EU imposed tariffs on produce destined for the continent.

That's the view of Nick Pledger, the managing director of Island Seafare, which coordinates sales of locally caught shellfish abroad.

Around 90 per cent is exported to the EU, with the industry worth around £12 million to the economy.

Mr Pledger says even if the UK can't secure a Brexit deal, there'll still be demand for Manx produce from European consumers.
