Manx Utilities apologises for Kewaigue closure disruption

Bus Vannin services delayed last night after emergency closure came into force

Manx Utilities has apologised for the disruption caused by an emergency road closure at Kewaigue which led to heavy traffic in and around the city last night.

Kewaigue Hill has been closed until Monday due to 'unforeseen ground conditions' during excavation.

Bus Vannin said services were delayed by up to 40 minutes throughout the city last night.

In a statement to Manx Radio, Manx Utilities said: "Work to install pipes has uncovered unforeseen ground conditions beneath the road and as a precautionary measure and in liaison with the DOI it was agreed that an emergency road closure should be implemented.

"Our team and contractors will continue to complete the work through the weekend with a view to returning to the pre-agreed single lane traffic with traffic lights from 0700 on Monday.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused as it was always our intention to maintain traffic flows around the essential work, however safety must come first. We are aware of the disruption caused as a result to road users, and again, we apologise. Local businesses and homes have been visited by our team to explain the changes and agree access."
