Manx WW1 soldier remembered

Town pays tribute to fallen son

A Manx soldier who died after being injured in action during World War One has been remembered at a ceremony.

A minute's silence was observed at Ramsey war memorial last night (13 April).

The gathering, organised by the commissioners, was in memory of Sydney Parkinson Richardson from the town, on the centenary of his death.

The 21-year old died in a French hospital from wounds he suffered at the Battle of Arras.

He left a widow and a baby he had never seen.

Arras was fought in April and May 1917 and marked the beginning of the spring offensive on the Western Front.
