Manxman to start Liverpool berthing trials at end of the month

Will follow routine dry dock for flagship vessel

The Manxman's due carry out berthing trials in Liverpool from the end of this month.

The Steam Packet Company says the vessel will enter a short dry dock as part of routine maintenance, as well as to fix damage sustained while docking at Heysham last month.

It says the trials are mandatory and ensures the safety of all passengers and crew.

The Ben-my-Chree will take over all Manxman sailings from 8pm on 29 September.

A date for the Ben-my-Chree's trials at the new terminal are yet to be scheduled, but as the vessel's mooring layout and stern ramp height is said to be similar to the Manxman, it's expected that only minimal trials will be needed if the Manxman's are successful.

SPC Managing Director, Brian Thomson, says: "Safety is our top priority. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards for all our vessels.

"By carrying out regular maintenance, we ensure Manxman operates efficiently and safely, particularly in preparation for the start of its new operations to Liverpool.

"We are also pleased to be able to carry out berthing trials in Liverpool and look forward to Manxman starting its service to the city for the first time."
