It says no suggestion of fraud involved
An Island-based charity is rectifying 'VAT mistakes' - but says there's no suggestion of fraud by anyone involved.
The ManxSPCA - which provides a range of animal welfare services - was found to be over claiming in some areas, and under claiming in others.
Tanya Humbles reports:
The board instructed a large accountancy firm to review its position, and contacted Isle of Man Customs to 'correct' the situation of its own volition.
Dealing with overcharges for VAT on some supplies used for charitable purposes, recovering VAT in returns, and unnecessarily reclaimed VAT, prompted the mistake.
In a statement, the ManxSPCA says its misreporting started long before current directors joined.
Although searches have been carried out - it says there's no indication of when, why or who proposed or sanctioned the approach on return calculations.
