Marathon fundraiser says mental fatigue worse than physical impact

More than £53,000 donated to Manx Solidarity Fund

A local athlete aiming to run 19 marathons in as many days for charity says the mental fatigue is proving more challenging than the physical impact.

Christian Varley started his fundraiser on 1 May, and is due to complete his final marathon on Tuesday.

Initially aiming to raise £19,000 for the Manx Solidarity Fund, more than £53,000 has been pledged through the runner's JustGiving page and offline donations.

After completing marathon number 15, Christian said it's been a tough challenge:

Those heading out to support and cheer on Christian are being reminded to spread out and observe social distancing guidelines, while runners and cyclists are asked not to travel alongside Christian in order to comply with the two metre restrictions.
