March sees climate change in the spotlight

Protests, plans and promises

The month of March saw both action and awareness surrounding the issue of climate change gain momentum on a number of fronts.

Government vowed to renew its approach, and has since put it out to public consultation.

That came after around 150 students set up outside Tynwald and government offices on Prospect Hill as part of a worldwide climate strike.

It's believed to have been the largest youth protest the Island has ever seen, and was generally well received by ministers.

And now, as Manx Radio reported last week, one local authority has declared a 'climate emergency'.
