Men in Sheds want Northern base

Government helps with hospital site

Men in the North of the Island could soon be getting a giant shed to meet up in, if planners give it the green light.

The Department of Health and Social Security has applied for permission to build a recreational building at the back of Ramsey Cottage Hospital.

The department says the facility would be used by Island organisation Men in Sheds, which gives retired men somewhere to meet up with each other.

In its application, the department says it would create a shed more than 40 feet long for the group to use.

In the application, the department says the building would include a large open space, kitchen, toilets, and an office.

It says the workshop would be used by retired men for metalwork, woodwork and as a social hub.

And although there’s already an established workshop in Port Erin, the department says there’s a significant interest in setting one up for the North.
