Warning from Speaker of the House of Keys
The Speaker of the House of Keys has hit out at a backbench MHK after believing his integrity was called into question.
Juan Watterson chairs the weekly sittings and has power over other politicians during the proceedings.
In the House of Keys (26 March) the Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper was questioned about his criticism of the Health Services Consultative Committee.
He’s previously accused the committee of ‘lying’ and publishing an annual report that was ‘full of errors’.
Mr Hooper was questioned on this by Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas who asked the minister to detail the inaccuracies.
It led to a series of questions from Mr Thomas and Onchan MHK Julie Edge who both found themselves on the wrong side of Mr Watterson.
John Moss has this report:
Last week a heavily redacted report clearing Mr Hooper of breaking the ministerial code, in relation to his conduct towards the HSCC, was published.
