
Hospitality sector reports tourism boost, but some attractions see visitor numbers drop during road closures
Motorsport fans have welcomed the return of a longer Manx Grand Prix schedule, which gets underway this Sunday, 17 August.
The event is moving back to a 12-day programme, after running in a shorter nine-day format in recent years.

Michael George from the Welbeck Hotel in Douglas says they’ve already seen a big difference this year. Bookings are up 162 percent compared to last year, with the first guests set to arrive this weekend:
John Kinley, owner of Ocean View’s Bar and Restaurant in Onchan, says more visitors will mean positive results for local businesses:
However, not every business sees the same benefits. Kathleen Graham, manager at the Wildlife Park, says its location on the course means fewer families visit during road closures.
While the park remains open - with access available from the old railway line - she says most people tend to stay away during racing:
The first day of this year's Manx Grand Prix will be on Sunday, 17 August for the first session of MGP qualifying.
Roads around the course are currently scheduled to close on that day from 12.45pm and reopen no later than 6pm.
