Matters being brought before Tynwald

Tynwald will this week hear calls for a major rethink on the loss of free TV licences for people over 75 years old on the Island.

David Cretney MLC will ask for a parliamentary committee to consider the issue, after the concession was scrapped in September.

He also wants a separate committee to look at free travel for pensioners on the Island's heritage railways.

Since April 2015, pensioners have had to pay half-fare on steam train and electric tram services, as a budget-saving measure.

Petitions on both issues were presented on Tynwald Day this year by members of the Manx Labour Party, and have been picked up by Mr Cretney, who is its chairman.
