More Meals on Wheels concerns

Age Concern demands assurances

Residents receiving Meals on Wheels services will be 'significantly' hit by cost once government's support for the service ends.

Age Concern's contract with the Department of Health and Social Care finishes in five weeks (12 January), after which users will have a choice of two other providers.

Staff braved the icy conditions today to bring meals to all its regular recipients.

The charity has asked for a commitment from the DHSC to speak to each of the 300 affected users individually before the cutoff date.

It's also raised concerns over the nutritional value of meals prepared by the new providers.
