Equipment funded by Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust
Noble's Hospital is set to get a new, state-of-the-art MRI scanner next week, thanks to funding from the Henry Bloom Noble Healthcare Trust.
The health department says the Siemens 3Tesla MRI will allow 'more complex scanning' to be carried out on-Island.
This means fewer patients will need to travel to UK hospitals for their scans.
Costing £1.2 million, the equipment is the last component of a bespoke, modern scanning suite at Noble's, which includes features like relaxing ambient lighting and new changing rooms.
'Innovision technology' is also being installed, so patients can watch a customised video while undergoing a scan - to reduce anxiety.
Getting the new equipment in place will be a 'painstaking operation', government says, involving lifting the MRI off its lorry by crane, through a hole in the outside wall of the hospital.
Traffic will need to be re-routed, and a bus stop moved, to provide space.
