New Domestic Abuse Act will impose immediate protection notices

It comes into force in January

The Domestic Abuse Act coming into force in early January will ensure victims are protected from perpetrators almost immediately

Police and the courts will have more power when dealing with domestic abuse and will be able to impose Domestic Abuse Protection Notices and Domestic Abuse Protection Orders.

Justice and Home Affairs Minister, Jane Poole Wilson says is an important step towards protecting victims. 

A charity that helps people affected by crime has seen a 78 percent increase of domestic abuse cases. 

Victim Support Isle of Man says it welcomes the act.
