New Manx Utilities pricing structure proposed

Inflation-only rises on the cards

Water rates are set to be cut, but sewerage charges would go up, under proposals put forward by Manx Utilities.

It's claimed there will be no overall impact for most customers, though.

Manx Utilities' new pricing strategy has been put forward in a document which will go before Tynwald for approval this month.

The adjustments to the water and sewerage charges are reportedly being done to reflect the cost of providing those services.

Aside from that rebalancing, the document also proposes inflation-only increases for water, sewerage and electricity for the next five years.

The current discount for commercial rates is set to be reduced, though, by five per cent a year, taking it down from its current level of 50% to 25%.

Manx Utilities Chairman Dr Alex Allinson MHK says while there is a large debt legacy to manage and pay, support from Tynwald and Treasury means they've managed to avoid excessive price increases for customers.

He adds Manx Utilities is obliged to continue to look for more efficient ways of operating.
