'No evidence' Russian state involved in Strix cyber-attack

OCSIA reiterating guidance to firms on protection measures

Government says there's currently no evidence to suggest the Russian state had any involvement in a recent cyber-attack on a Manx company.

Earlier this week it was confirmed Strix, based at Ronaldsway, had been hit by a cyber-attack which, at the time, was suspected to be of Russian origin.

It's now believed the ransomware used in the incident is a strain called 'Lockbit 2.0' which is commonly attributed to Russian-speaking cyber criminals.

The Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (OCSIA) is reiterating guidance for companies on protecting their data.

Those guidelines are:

- Patching systems

- Improving access controls and enabling multi-factor authentication

- Implementing an effective incident response plan

- Checking that backup and restore mechanisms are working

- Ensuring that online defences are working as expected

- Keeping up to date with the latest threat and mitigation information
