Minister says decision will provide stability
No changes to the constitution of the Department of Home Affairs – or its functions – will be made.
Government says there's no merit in restructuring following a review into the future operation of the department which included the possibility of dissolving it entirely.
Minister Jane Poole-Wilson says the decision will provide the stability needed to deliver 'hugely important' pieces of legislation including a new Domestic Abuse Act.
The department is also recruiting a permanent chief executive – the current post holder has been in place, as an interim, for more than three years:
'Essential' that school staff recognise the signs of an allergic reaction
'High' risk of wildfires over the next week
'Come From Away' to continue after cast member injured during rehearsal
'Parks in worse state then when I started' says Peel commissioner
