No undue delays to court sittings, says gov't

Officials say Covid-19 backlog has been worked through

There are no undue delays to sittings at the Isle of Man Courts of Justice, according to government.

Government says there were previously Covid-19 related backlogs in the system but that these have now been worked through.

Courts - other than jury trials - were able to continue to an extent during lockdowns, albeit at lower volumes.

A spokesperson says there will always be reasons why individual cases get delayed or are given hearing dates well into the future.

These decisions, they say, can be very varied and include availability of parties or witnesses.

Officials add although it's a busy time for the legal system right now, courtroom availability or judicial time are not generally an issue.

They do say General Gaol trials are being listed into October 2022 at this stage, but this is not considered to be out of the ordinary.
