Olympic flame to visit Island during TT 2012

The Olympic flame is coming to the Isle of Man next year.

It will arrive on the Island on Saturday 2nd June 2012, the first race day of the TT festival.

It will be on day 15 of its 70 day journey around the UK, having started out at Lands End.

Day 14 will be spent in Liverpool and after the Island visit it will move on to Northern Ireland to start a tour around the province at Port Rush.

The announcement of the flame's visit was made earlier this morning.

Chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, Sebastian Coe, says he's thrilled that the Isle of Man has agreed to host the Olympic Flame on its journey. He believes the visit will shine a light right across the Island, celebrating its culture and heritage.

Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure David Cretney says the flame's arrival on the Island will be a significant part of our sporting history and will tie us firmly into the global Olympic family.
