Online voting 'way forward' for general elections

Polls could be conducted via internet in future

Online voting is the way forward for the Isle of Man, according to a general election candidate.

Andrew Barton - who was unsuccessful in his bid for a seat in Garff in September - was giving evidence to a Tynwald Select Committee reviewing the operation and organisation of the election.

The committee, set up following a call from David Cretney MLC, is taking evidence from its first four witnesses today.

Mr Barton told the committee whilst he felt traditional voting at polling stations should continue, being able to vote via the internet should be trialled soon.

The committee will hear further evidence next month.
