'Opt-out' organ donation law takes one step closer

'Daniel's Law' sees third reading in House of Keys

An 'opt-out' system for organ donation has taken a step closer to becoming law.

Under 'Daniel's Law' Manx residents would need to declare whether they wish to keep their organs once they've passed away.

The MHK behind the Human Tissue and Organ Donation Bill, which saw its third reading in the House of Keys this week, is Martyn Perkins:

The unofficial title, 'Daniel's Law' is named after a young boy killed in a car crash.

His organs were donated, and his mother has campaigned for the 'opt-out' rule ever since.
