PAG disheartened as Electoral Reform Bill stalls

A Manx political pressure group say the Legislative Council has proved today (Tuesday) there is no desire for change.

Members of the Positive Action Group were at this morning's sitting of LegCo, for the second reading of David Callister's Electoral Reform Bill.

He is proposing a complete shake up of the Island's parliament with the formation of eight, three-seat constituencies, with each also having a popularly elected council member.

However, after 90 minutes of debate, MLCs decided to ask the House of Keys if a joint committee should be formed to discuss certain aspects of the proposed legislation.

That idea came from Eddie Lowey MLC, who said now wasn't the time for such change, but these PAG members fear there will never be a 'right time' in the eyes of politicians:
