Paul Atherton wins 2021 Parish Walk

First victory and third finish for Peel man

Paul Atherton is the winner of the 2021 Parish Walk.

The Peel man, who had two previous finishes in the event, completed the 85-mile course in a time of 15 hours, 23 minutes and 41 seconds.

Liam Parker, who started the day as the defending champion, was second, 17 minutes and 43 seconds behind the winner, while Noel Ash and Adam Killip finished at the same time to jointly claim third place.

Samantha Bowden won the women's race, and was sixth overall. Her time of 16 hours, 38 minutes and 51 seconds is the ninth fastest by a woman in the race's history.

Mason Prince took the honours in the under-21 men's category, with Elle Cain claimed the under-21 women's title.

The race continues until 8am, with a number of walkers still on the course.
