People urged to share their experiences of energy crisis

Public Accounts Committee to hear evidence ahead of Tynwald

People are being urged to share their experiences of the impact of the energy crisis.

The Public Accounts Committee will sit on 12 September and will be discussing the support packages put forward by government so far.

You can find out more about them HERE.

Evidence will be heard from the Manx Utilities Authority, Treasury and Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority.

Committee chair Juan Watterson said: "With inflation on the rise, and energy costs a big proportion of that, the PAC is holding a hearing on the government response and the cost to the public purse.

"The PAC brings together experience across finance, economic, social and infrastructure policy.

"This important subject has significant consequences for everyone on the Island so a timely opportunity to ask the important questions is essential for government accountability."

Tynwald will set out its response to the rising cost of living in a special sitting the following day (13 September).

Mr Watterson has told Manx Radio it’s important everyone has a voice:

The Public Accounts Committee will sit at 10.30am on 12 September at the Legislative Council Chamber in Douglas – members of the public are welcome to attend.

Anyone who wishes to submit evidence, queries or concerns to the committee should email committees@tynwald.org.im by Thursday, 8 September.
