Pet names can be offensive - Moffatt

A union negotiations officer in the Isle of Man says care needs to be taken about the use of pet names in the office.

Anglea Moffatt from Prospect is responding to the results of a survey which has revealed people can be offended by certain terms.

Female workers say they particularly dislike being called 'Babe', which they find patronising.

Other unpopular 'terms of endearment' include 'Hun', 'Mate' and 'Chick'.

Mrs Moffatt says very often people using such names don't mean to cause offence, but it's important to be aware that it's easy to overstep the mark (audio file attached):
