Committee hears evidence from petitioners

The Island's planning system will be scrutinised this morning (Thursday).

It’s the first sitting of a Tynwald select committee on planning and building control which was set up in November to assess the operation.

It follows a petition brought by Philip and Kirree Jenkins who believe there are weaknesses and ambiguity in the practices and laws of planning, building control and related matters.

They will give evidence to the committee in the Legislative Council chamber at ten thirty this morning.

Chris Thomas MHK picked up the Jenkins' petition, then asked Tynwald in November last year to set up the committee and put him on it.

Speaking to Manx Radio ahead of that sitting of the court, Mr Thomas outlined his hopes for the committee, if Tynwald approved it:
