Police killer Cregan to be sentenced this afternoon

The man who admitted killing former Island resident, police officer Fiona Bone, has been cleared of a separate charge of attempted murder involving a grenade.

Jurors returned their verdicts in the trial of Dale Cregan and nine others a short time ago at Preston Crown Court.

Cregan had already pleaded guilty to four other murders - including killing policewomen Fiona and her colleague Nicola Hughes in Greater Manchester last September.

Family members of Fiona were in the public gallery when the verdicts were read out.

Cregan is due to be sentenced within the next hour.
