Police probe assaults

Police have launched an inquiry after two assaults on Douglas promenade in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday).

A man, believed to be aged 18 or 19, was attacked on Queen’s Promenade at around 2.20am near the Silver Dragon Restaurant.

It’s thought he was kicked and punched by three youths of a similar age. Bystanders intervened and contacted police, including a woman who sustained a wrist injury when she stepped in to prevent the incident escalating.

Both the suspects and the youth who’d been subject to the assault ran off in separate directions before the police arrived.

There was another scuffle at about the same time, near to the TT T-shirt stop, where a 30 year-old man received minor facial injuries after being assaulted by another man.

Police arrested a 19 year-old male who has since been bailed.

They’re keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked and are appealing for witnesses to either event to come forward and for the youth who was assaulted outside the Silver Dragon to make himself known.
