Police say public help 'undoubtedly contributed' to cracking dumped LFT case

One of three responsible sentenced

Police have thanked the public who assisted with an investigation into dumped LFT tests.

It started in October 2021 after a large number of the Covid testing devices were found in a skip at the Eastern Civic Amenity Site.

At Douglas Courthouse a 38-year-old woman was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £125 after admitting fraud by false representation.

Two other people, who also admitted the charge, are due to be sentenced on 11 May.

The three people were all previously responsible for delivering the lateral flow tests during the pandemic.

Detective Inspector Steven Berry said: “Thankfully this type of offending is extremely rare in the Isle of Man.

“I am pleased with the court findings today and thank those officers who have worked tirelessly and with great determination and dedication to achieve this result.

“I would also like to thank the wider public in assisting with our investigations which undoubtedly contributed to ensuring public justice has been served.”
