By election latest: recount in Glenfaba

Close contest in Glenfaba as recount begins

Polls have closed in the two House of Keys by elections being held in the Island today, in Glenfaba and Peel (10 Sept).

Electors have had since 8am to cast their ballot at polling stations around the constituencies.

A recount is underway at the Glenfaba count at St John's Methodist church hall. Counting continues at Peel Centenary Centre.

A four-way contest is underway in Peel for the seat left vacant by Tim Crookall after his move to the Legislative Council.

Leslie Hanson, Ray Harmer and David Pownall are standing as Independents, while Penny Hardman represents Liberal Vannin.

In Glenfaba, Geoffrey Boot and David Talbot are both standing as Independent candidates, vying to replace David Anderson, also elevated to LegCo earlier this year.

Voting throughout the day in fine weather has been described by Returning Officer Sally Bolton as 'steady'.

Manx Radio has reporters at both counts, to bring the results live on air this evening, with reports in our bulletins at 11pm and midnight.

Interviews with the winners and full coverage of the elections will be broadcast in Friday's Mandate programme from 7.30am, 11 September.
