Port Erin boundary push on Tynwald agenda

Authority wants Rushen half of Ballakilley Estate

A bid to extend the boundaries of Port Erin Commissioners into the neighbouring authority of Rushen will feature in Tynwald's last sitting before the summer break.

Port Erin has set its sights on acquiring the whole of the recently built Ballakilley estate, half of which currently sits within Rushen's territory.

At the July sitting of Tynwald, the Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer will move that an inquiry into the proposal be launched, where the public and other bodies will have the chance to comment.

The move has angered members of the Rushen board, who have accused the neighbouring authority of 'rate-grabbing', which will leave some Ballakilley residents worse off.

Port Erin members insist the proposed extension will help create 'a coherent community' to contribute towards local services.
