Pre-school operators revealed by DEC

New operators have been appointed to run pre-schools at ten of the Island's primaries.

The new providers, announced by the Department of Education and Children, include an existing early years charity, three private firms, a newly-formed trust and a staff takeover.

There were no takers for two schools in the north where pre-school education's currently offered.

But it's hoped there will be classes available by the start of the new school year in September.

Sixteen applications were made for contracts to offer pre-school education from existing facilities when state-funded provision stops at the end of the summer term.

Sandcastle's Kindergarten has the lease at Cronk-y-Berry, Busy Bears Nursery will be in charge at Peel Clothworkers and Stepping Stones at Auldyn Primary School.

The St John's Pre-School Trust will take over the village's facility, while at Victoria Road exisiting nursery staff have been appointed, the only in-house takeover on the list.

Talks are still ongoing to find a provider for Jurby; the contract for Bride school site will be re-advertised.
