Work underway to set up external inspection at Isle of Man Prison
Mental health support is one of the areas the Isle of Man Prison needs to improve.
That's the view of Home Affairs and Justice Minister Jane Poole-Wilson as her department prepares to put in place an external inspection plan for the Jurby facility.
Ensuring independent oversight of the prison was one of the priorities identified during the recent budget.
With prisoners requiring specialist mental health care currently sent off Island, Mrs Poole-Wilson admits it's one aspect of the prison service that could be better:
