Public warned of Amazon scam

People receiving scam calls from online retailer

The Office of Cyber-Security and Information Assurance has warned of a telephone scam.

It says it has been made aware of a number of Isle of Man residents receiving automated scam phone calls from persons claiming to be from the online retailer Amazon.

Apparently, the caller asks the listener to 'press 1' before putting them through to a bogus Amazon agent, who will then attempt to coerce the listener into given them remote access to one of their devices.

It says anyone who receives a call of this nature should report it to their bank who will be able to take measures to protect their account.

They add - anyone effected by this scam should report it through its webpage at www.gov.im/cybersecurity
