Ramsey Steamship Company sells Ben boats

Historic Island shipping firm Ramsey Steamship Company has sold its two vessels Ben Maye and Ben Varrey to Kent-based ship owner Angel Shipping Ltd.

The freighters will be operated and managed by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Angel, Absolute Shipping Ltd.

In July this year Ramsey Steamship Company announced it would be wound-up after 100 years because of a £1 million pensions liability.

However, there's a role in the new venture for current MD of the Ramsey Steamship Company Tony Kennish, who will join the company's management team.

Delivery of the re-liveried vessels took place in Ramsey this morning.

Managing director of Angel and Absolute Eion Lyons said the company will continue to operate both Ben vessels in the Irish Sea and to develop the service they've provided to the local community.

Mr Lyons has paid tribute to the Steamship Company for the way the ships have been maintained, which he says is a credit to the management.

Tony Kennish said "After over hundred years of service to the Island and Irish Sea area, it is a very sad day that the name Ramsey Steamship will be no more."

He went on to thank all personnel, ashore and afloat, and customers for their support and loyalty over the years.
