Island resident John Whittaker will be celebrating after his company won outline planning permission for a £5.5 billion development on Liverpool’s waterfront.
Peel Developments will now press ahead with Liverpool Waters, a huge project of skyscrapers, offices and homes that could create up to 20,000 jobs.
The scheme will be built over the next 30 years, and because it’s the largest planning application in the UK the government still needs to give it the go-ahead.
Director Lindsey Ashworth says he’s keen the scheme won’t jeopardise the city’s World Heritage status granted by UNESCO.
