White ruled out in Kirk Michael due to lack of grip
Two red and black zebra crossings are being installed in Kirk Michael.
The Department of Infrastructure says it’s in response to the community's wishes for formal pedestrian crossings.
They'll be located at Michael School, near Douglas Road, and at Cannan Court sheltered housing complex near the Baltic Road and Balleira Road junction.
The TT course currently has no zebra markings due to the white paint causing a lack of grip for accelerating motorcycles.
Red asphalt is being used instead – the DOI says this will create a 'satisfactory balance' between the needs of the village and race organisers.
Despite the visual difference the new look crossings will have the same legal status as standard versions.
