Report claims jet VAT refunds increased in 2018

UK newspaper reports 19 aircraft received the refund last year

A UK newspaper claims the Isle of Man refunded almost £100m in VAT to those registering private jets here in 2018.

The Guardian reports on a freedom of information request which shows applications for the 20% refund for 19 aircraft were received last year, all of which were granted.

It's an increase from just under £70m in 2017.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle defended the practice following the Paradise Papers scandal in 2017, insisting the Island has done nothing wrong.

Manx Radio has approached the Isle of Man Government for comment and is awaiting a response.
