Terns return!
Respect the Island's greatest travellers.
That's the message as Arctic and Little Terns return to the Island at this time of year to lay their eggs and bring up their young.
Arctic Terns make some of the largest migrations known, flying from pole to pole each year and clocking up around 1.5 million miles of flight during their lifetime.
However, terns lay their eggs in shallow hollows on beaches around the Ayres and Smeale, making them very vulnerable to disturbance by ramblers or dog walkers.
Sections of the beach at the Point of Ayre are roped off to protect the birds and Ayres Warden Louise Samson is reminding people to observe two other roped off areas.
It is an offence to disturb the nesting birds and anyone witnessing any potential incidents of the birds being disturbed is urged to contact DEFA (Ayres Warden) or Wildlife Crime Officers PC Mark KERRUISH and John HILLS at Ramsey Police Station on 812 234
